Adventure of the Seas Day 8

Day 8 - Disembark

We elected to do self disembarkation, so were up early so we could get to the conference center at 6:45 am. This allowed us to get off the ship starting at 7:15 am.

The transfer to the airport was much more organized than the one from the airport to the ship. We left shortly after getting on the bus and were at the airport at approximately 8:00 am.

We reached the check in desk and did not have to wait in any lines. The polite agent found us an earlier flight that have us home before we were supposed to leave San Juan.

The flight back was a little bumpy, but not too bad. Apparently, the weather in Orlando was not as nice as our outbound flight because the landing was much rougher than expected.

We lucked out, our bags were one of the first onto the conveyor belt. Off to terminal top parking and we were headed home.

Adventure of the Seas Day 7

Today we woke to a beautiful ocean view. The sky's had a few light clouds and blue water for as far as you can see

Watching the ocean we saw schools of flying fish. Of course as soon as I got my phone to take a picture they were gone.

I looked back out later and there were even more fish. I gave up and didn't even try to get pictures this time

Off to another feeding in the Windjammer. Then to the pool deck for a t-shirt sale. We found a couple of chairs in the shade and took it easy reading, watching people and watching the hosted activities. i.e. The sexiest man competition and the belly flop contest.

Our bartender , Gabor was working in the pool deck today. Of course he remembered our drinks again. What a memory he has.

After several hours at the pool we went back to our cabin for a short nap before we went down to the farewell show. The comic was pretty good. The orchestra still can't remember the lead in or any of the other songs they have plaid the entire cruise. Of course, the singers all know their songs without sheet music or some other sort of prompter. This was the singers first week on the ship.

Judy just held up my sea pass card and Gabor brought 2 drinks to our seat. He arrived with the correct drinks. As part of the end of cruise routine, you can pick crew members that went above and beyond and give them an extra tip. This is above and beyond what the crew get from the $12.95 per person per day that appears on our seapass account. We gave Gabor an envelope with $20 in it (this was in addition to all the tips he received from us for the week). We know for us it isn't much, but for him it was a lot. He was actually embarrassed getting the envelope and the thank you he received from us. This ship could take some major hints on how to treat their guests by following Gabor for a day.

We met our cabin steward in the hall as we were coming back to our cabin. We stopped and thanked him for taking care of us for the week. Robert will have an envelope waiting for him when we leave in the morning.

Off to bed. We have to be down in the conferences enter by 6:45 for a 7:00 disembarkation.

Adventure of the Seas Day 6

Today we woke up in Barbados. The captain backed the ship into port. We had a view of open water with several cargo ships anchored near us waiting to get into Port to unload.

We went up to the Windjammer for breakfast today. The food was the same as every other morning.

Once we found a table overlooking he port we were quite disappointed. All you could see were cargo docks, cranes and ships. They were running shuttle buses to the end if the pier. Then you had to take a taxi into the city if you wished to see anything. We elected not to do this. Instead we decided to take advantage of the peace and quite on the ship while a lot of passengers went ashore.

We walked around the ship taking a look at several of the areas we had not been to.  There is an overlook into the bridge area. It seems strange for a ship this size that the controls of the ship are in such a small area. There is enough empty space to hold a dinner reception for a large crowd.

We had a late lunch or early dinner and then went to the dance & music show in the main theater. This was he first night that these dancers were on the ship. They did pretty good but it was nothing spectacular. The musicians did not know any of the music. They were staring at the their sheet music the entire time they played. This was even the case during the piano solo that was mid stage.

This was the end to our day.

Adventure of the Seas Day 5

Today we woke up to a great view of Martinique.

We got off the ship and went for a walk around the area near the port. Today was unique. The cruise terminal appears to be right at a shopping area the the residents use too. Most places kind of keep us in a tourist area which most likely means higher prices so this was interesting.

When we were getting off the ship, it started raining. We didn't want go to back to the ship and up to our cabin to get our umbrellas, so I bought an umbrella. Guess what? The rain quit and we did not see a single rain cloud in the sky. That how it seems to go.

We found it interesting that we walked past a KFC and there was a McDonald's across the street from the ship.

The restrooms seemed to be a little different too.

We had a map and got lost trying to find Cathedrale Saint-Louis (Saint-Louis Cathedral). So we went into a pharmacy to ask for directions. The clerk in the pharmacy pointed out the store window and said it is under the scaffold about a block away. They were most likely thinking. "Darned Americans are "your choice of interesting language here".

Once in the cathedral we walked around a little while. We were overtaken by the beauty of the stained glass windows and pipe organ.

After that we headed back to the ship. We then went to guest services to find out how to catch our shuttle to the airport on Saturday morning.

Off to lunch we went. The food looked better today, but tastes about the same. The deserts were pretty good too.

Then we went to the spa to see if we could get a facial and massage. No luck, they were booking after 8 tonight and we were planning other things. I guess we will check back tomorrow and see what is available.

From here it was back to cabin to read and watch the world go by.

Today was water filling day for the ship. It appears that we use a lot of water?

Arrived a little early for the show again tonight. Our server was the same as we had serving us the entire cruise. Gabor was kind and efficient. He also remembered our drinks from night to night. My memory can barely get me back to our cabin and he remembers drinks like it is nothing.

The show was a tribute to Elton John. The performance left a lot to be desired. The performer was brought in from Las Vegas. He had a really good voice and was a great piano player. Unfortunately he had to work too hard to impersonate Elton John, which made the show terrible.

Adventure of the Seas Day 4

Today was a lazy day aboard the ship for us. Our port of call was St. Marteen. We had been in this port many times so we decided not to get off the ship.

This was an eat, read, sleep day for us. We visited the next cruise desk to see what kind of offers they had. There were too many options for cruises so we decided not to book our next cruise now. We may go on a different cruise line next year.

We did not go to the evening ice skating show because we have seen too many of them. They have all been good but ice skating in a moving, rocking ship lead to too many falls and limited routines.

Our big event for the day was watching "Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation" on the big screen by the pool. It was chilly on the pool deck due to the wind. The movie it's self was good.

After we got back to our cabin we were hungry. It took two trips to the cafe promenade and the store before we got enough food and drink to take care of our appetite.

We started reading our books and fell asleep pretty fast.

Talk about a lazy day.
