Oasis of the Seas Day 7

Today is a sea day. Both Judy and I have come down with a head/chest cold so we slept in this morning and did not have a whole lot planned for the day. We are ate a light lunch and then went to the captains question an answer session. It was very interesting. After the question and answer session we made our way to the future cruise booking desk and reserved an Alaskan cruise and a southern Caribbean cruise for Thanksgiving next year.

Off to bed early since we will be getting off the ship and driving home starting around 6:15 in the morning.

Oasis of the Seas Day 6

What a rough night last night. The waves were terrible all night. I can only imagine what it would have felt like if we weren’t on the largest cruise ship sailing.

Today we went on the Living History: Mayan Traditions And Island Tour. This was a 3 ½ hour bus ride around Cozumel with stops at three different places. The first was a small Mayan reenactment camp where we got to sample some food and history and taste several varieties of tequila. At this stop we bought a bottle of flavor infused tequila and a shot glass. At the next stop we were on a beach in the eastern side of the island. Very nice so we decided to buy a sea shell wind chime. From there we were off to the Mayan ruins. This is a nice area with a beautiful Catholic Church built next the ruins. The church was built in 1847. From there it was back to the ship. Oh yeah. We didn’t buy anything at the last stop or on the pier. Not sure how that happened. Oh yeah. I lost my Fit bit now how am I going to count steps.

For the evenings entertainment we saw the comedy live show. There were two comedians and a host. All three were very funny and the show seemed like it was over before it had even begun. There needs to more shows like this.

Oasis of the Seas Day 5

Today was a busy day around the ship catching several ships activities. We went to the 50% off clothing sale and bought everything but clothing. We walked through the art gallery and saw several nice pieces we would love to have, unfortunately it was going up for auction so we knew the prices were going to be too high so no art for us. Then off to bingo we go. Trying to win cash or a cruise, that didn’t work out too well either but it was something to do. They have fully automated the game of bingo. You get a machine with a bunch of cards preloaded and they give you (sell you) three paper cards for each game so you can at least feel like you are actually playing the game while most of the stuff happens on the machines.

We then went to the move it move it parade on the promenade deck. This was a great show. We then went to the men’s international belly flop competition which was postponed due to weather so off to flash mob dance class. We couldn’t even finish she class it wore us out. We then went to the splish splash comedy dive show. This is a new show that they were developing so it was just OK.

For the final show of the evening we went to the headliner show which was ABBACADABRA which was a really good set of impersonators performing ABBA’s hits.

We had more planed for the evening but we were finished so back to the cabin we went.

Oasis of the Seas Day 4

Today we are in Falmouth Jamaica. Our tour today began as soon as we docked. We hopped on a bus and rode for almost 2 hours to the Brimmer Hall Estate. We then went to a resort restaurant for a Jamaican lunch. Not the best but it was OK. We then went on to the Dunns River Falls where Judy and I climbed part way up the falls. After that it was a bit of a ride back to the ship. We were worn out. We sat in the whirl pool for a while and off to the room to end our day early. Tomorrow we will be at sea for the day.

Oasis of the Seas Day 3

We got up this morning just the ship docked in Labadee Haiti. After a quick breakfast we set off to see the sights. This is a private part of Haiti which Royal Caribbean has leased so it looks much like the other private islands we have been to. We walked around and visited some of the shops. The shop keepers in lots of the places are very aggressive which makes shopping a bit uncomfortable. We watched several people come down the zip line. It looks like loads of fun but we (I) could not see us doing this due to height and distance traveled. We saw everything we wanted to see and Judy decided we would check and see if there were any shore excursions left. We decided on an hour and a half boat tour of the area. It started out pretty slow at first but when we made the turn around a point in the island the tour guide started giving us lots more information. The drinks started flowing and there was more to see. We saw lots of local fishermen who are out every day fishing to feed their families and to sell to others. There is no refrigeration in most of the area so what they catch today must either be eaten or sold for someone else to eat. The guide pointed out the residences in the area that are occupied by the locals. They were very scarce and only had electricity for about 20 hours a day. We also saw some very nice structures and we were informed that those belonged to people from other parts of the world and were only occupied occasionally. Everything in this area is only reachable by boat. Land here is very cheap but getting the materials necessary to build a structure of any kind makes it very expensive to do anything. This was a great tour.

After the tour we are a quick lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, salad, cookies and brownies. All ships food so not much different than if we had eaten on board but it was still nice

Once on the ship we made a trip for a massage for me and a facial for Judy. Neither one were as good as those we had on the MSC Divina a few months ago. The therapists all are very high pressure sales people as well so that made the relaxed feeling you got from the treatment go away pretty quickly. For the price it seems they could find a better way to up sell their product.

Now time for a quick bite to eat. We hit sandwiches and pizza at the shops on the promenade. Then wasted some time prior to our 7:30 show, Oasis dreams. The show had spectacular divers. Synchronized Swimmers and Acrobats. It was a great show.

Tomorrow we arrive at Falmouth Jamaica.

Oasis of the Seas Day 2

Today is a Day at sea. We, of course, made sure we got to the Windjammer for Breakfast and Lunch.

We also had two shows scheduled for today. Cats was a mediocre show and was way too long for a ship based show. The ice skating show was extremely well done. It still amazes us how these skaters can perform Olympic style moves on a moving ship. Granted they aren’t perfect and a couple of times the ship moved just as a skater landed on the ice to unexpected results. We had a late dinner tonight. It was a Sea Food Dinner – All you can eat shrimp cocktail – you can’t get any better than that.

Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas Day 1

Up at 6:15 am and on the road for Ft. Lauderdale by 7:30. We arrived at the port just before noon checked our luggage parked the car and walked straight on to the ship. We wandered through the largest class of ship sailing. This ship is huge. We had lunch in the Windjammer. Selection of food was good and everything we ate was good.

When we got to our stateroom we found a nice balcony room though a little small it was comfortable for two people.

We spent more time walking around and checking out the different areas of the ship. Everything is very well designed and laid out. It is an impressive ship. Everywhere we go we seem to get lost.

We met our room steward. He was nice enough but nowhere as nice as the one on the Divina and for that matter the steward on the Freedom of the Seas a year ago.
